Visitare Farneta
Il monastero benedettino di Farneta risale, secondo alcuni, all'età longobarda, ma di esso abbiamo notizia solo in un docmento del 1014. Nel duecento arrivò a controllare gran parte della parte inferiore della Val di Chiana. Nel XV secolo era ormai in decadenza enel 1799 fu soppresso. La chiesa è a una sola navata con transetto sporgente in cui si aprono cinque absidi. Insolita la soluzione del transetto absidato, e inconsueta anche la presenza, all'interno, del presbiterio con le absidi fiancheggiate da nicchie quasi a formare un trifoglio, rimosse nel 1924 perchè ritenute aggiunte posteriori. Il motivo è ancora presente nella cripta, coperta con volte a crociera senza sottarchi, sostenuta da colonne e capitelli romani di spoglio.
In the opinion of some the Benedectine Monastery may be dated back to th elombard period but it was certified only in 1014. In the 13th century most of Val di Chiana was under it. In the 15th century it was in decline and in 1799 it was suppressed. The church has a single nave with projecting transept, in wich there are five apses. The use of the apsed trasept is unusual, as the presence, inside, of the presbytery with, at the side of the apses, niches almost shaping a clover. In 1924 they were taken away as they were supposed to be a later addition. The same motif is in the crypt, covered whit cross vaults, without the underside of the arches, supported by a columns end roman capitals.
